Celebrating today the other head of the family Rudolf's birthday (30.3.2006) we launch our awesome website!

Virtanen - van Baar families have been travelling together since 1980! And really they are at least worth of a website. Their trips together have included visits to Holland, Finland, Russia,France, Estonia and latest Italy. These families have seen le petite vilage of Amboise and the great Leningrad (now known as St. Petersburg),they have been in the middle of nothing in Kangasniemi in Finland and they have concured la tour Eifel. Everything begun in 1980 in Swizerland where Rudolf met Tauno from the far North.

Unprejudiced family van Baar came to visit family Virtanen already next summer (after Switzerland) to Finland - as they were welcomed. And it was LOVE at first sight. Judith, Ingeborg and Annika became best friends right from the beginnig and Rudolf stole Riitta's heart as Lida gave hers to Tauno and little Lauri started already loving everyone more than 100000 percent (though he was only able to tell this a bit later one summer in France in one of the many terraces).

There are some facts you should know about this friendship:

• Lauri can love you just a bit more if you keep it as a secret (and if you buy him technical legos). He also thanks you VERY VERY much.
• Riitta is still dreaming of the boy of Vouvry - he was beutiful (like everything else as well in Riitta's opinion)
• Judith and Annika prefer swimming pools to museums
• Ingeborg has always been the big sister with sense in her head
• Lida is the one and only organizer of the family, she is our team leader
• Rudolf keeps the families in budget. He pays the bills and controls the pocket money
• Tauno normaly sees the trips through a video camera or camera 
• Ingeborg exchanged letters with a French boy Vincent, untill she understood to stop it before Vincent would have come to
  live with her in Holland.
• Rudolf taught Lauri to love Mercedes and Lauri prefers always Rudolf's car before his father's (or now days his own)
• Rudolf says: Take your time, let's go!
• Suits me, says Tauno
• We all say: Good for us is bad for them
  -What a great pity!
  -Why not!
•  We are not "real Belgiums"
• Nobody is perfect - our name is nobody
• The Dutch side of the family knows Finnish (voileipäpöytä, äiti tuu tänne, auringonkukka, yksi, kaksi, kolme..)
  while the Finns have hard time even with English

  As years have gone by the family has got bigger. We are now 14! Rudolf, Lida, Riitta, Tauno, Ingeborg, Judith, André, Lauri, Terhi, Annika, Carlos and the wonderfull twins Max and Bob and the baby Kasper. And the extended family is ofcourse even bigger (Eymert, Annaleena, Narciso, Lourdes etc.)

  • Max and Bob are the best twins of the world
  • Bob is a wonderful story teller and knew that Annika was expecting a boy: "I can't hear him right now, but it is a boy"
  • Max is a real man whose performance at the stage of the hotel was spectacular
  • Carlos loves history as much as Lida, which is really a lot
  • André has still not been at the official meetings but there is time, yet, let's not wait until the 50th anniversary.

  This website will be continuously under construction - but at the moment you can find pictures from our 25th anniversary of knowing eachother that was celebrated in Italy. Enjoy!
